There are certain games that hook me like nothing else. World of Warcraft, The Witcher series, Starcraft 1 + 2…all those have that magical effect on me. I can now state that Faster Than Light (FTL for short) is another game that will be added to that list. In FTL, you take command of a crew of a ship on a fantastic journey filled with danger, betrayal, and hoping that you do not run out of fuel. The graphics fit the game perfectly and the gameplay consists of the player micromanaging the crew, having them man different modules present on the ship, repair the ship as it is damaged, and even teleport over to the enemy vessel in attempt to take it over. As the player moves through the different sectors, culminating with a massive boss fight at in teh last sector, there are random encounters that spice up the game. In one instance, you can go from moving forward with no issues to a spaceship that is aflame with a nasty mantis ship boring through your hull with missiles.

Check out my gameplay video I recorded and let me know what you think of the game in the comments. Since I cannot seem to get my email right in the video, it is jerome@nonstophonolulu.com. As always, if there are any questions, please feel free to contact me via email or the other options in the links section and don’t forget to like the video and subscribe to my channel.

If you have ever had your whole allowance swallowed by a gaming machine, you know how difficult the Metal Slug series was. Luckily on iOS you only have to pay $6.99 once and you can play the game as much as you want, even if you die a plethora of times (and you will). Check out my review and let me know what you think!

Finding that perfect keyboard to complement my new iPad has been a challenge. I have used the Apple wireless keyboard for some time, but decided to give Logitech’s offering a try. Logitech just recently released this unit and it feels and looks amazing. One interesting tidbit is that the unit is still for preorder on the official Logitech website. For $69, you receive the keyboard, 4 AAA batteries, and a case/stand. For someone who is on a budget, the inclusion of a stand with the keyboard is rather nice. The keyboard itself is made from some solid plastic that fits perfectly into the case.

The keyboard connects to the iPad via bluetooth, allowing the user to keep their favorite case on their iPad. I have personally tried the Zagg case with the built-in keyboard, but rather quickly returned to my aluminum Apple wireless keyboard so I can continue to use my leather case. With the Logitech keyboard, I still have that freedom but also reap the benefits of certain aspects that are unique to this bluetooth keyboard. For example, there are buttons that instantly take the user to the home screen or the search screen, allow for adjustment of the volume or skip/pause/play, or even take iPad to the lock screen.

While I was visiting Germany, I used this keyboard as my primary input device for iPad and it worked like a charm. I was able to write much quicker than using the virtual keyboard. Until you can use speech dictation, I believe a physical keyboard will still be a better option for long emails or documents. As with all things, this is a personal preference.

The Logitech iPad keyboard feels sturdy, even though it is made of plastic versus aluminum, but there are some creaks that the Apple wireless keyboard did not have. Other than that, typing on the keyboard is a dream and the keys are very responsive and make that satisfying clickety-clackety noise. The battery life is very satisfying and, once you have to replace them, AAA batteries are rather easy to come by. Another positive of the keyboard is that it comes with a standard three year warranty compared to the usual one year warranties you see with accessories.

The only issues I see with the keyboard are the possibility of the stand breaking from overuse. Every time I snap the case into the lock, I am worried that it will break since I use the keyboard as my primary input tool. I have owned plenty of Logitech devices, mostly made from plastic, and I have yet to see any issues crop up.

Overall, for the $69 price tag and all of utility that this keyboard provides, I can heartily recommend this device for anyone looking add a bit of pep to creating content on their iPad. Let us not forget that the stand allows the user to keep whatever case they have on their iPad due to it being adjustable. Find the device at the usual brick and mortal suspects and online.

With the plethora of games that started life out as Flash games that were then converted to iOS games, rComplex is one of the best. This game has you running for your life, not endlessly, with a set goal in mind and with a huge mass of tentacles wanting to strangle the life out of you. Luckily, you have a shotgun and a scythe that will protect you. For only $1.99 for an universal game, I have to say I did get my monies worth even though the game is rather hard.

Check out my quick review video and leave some feedback in the comments. I am always up for a good discussion. Mahalo!
